Nelson Mandella

This Week my class has been reading and learning about Nelson Mandella.
Nelson Mandella is famous for many things. He fought against segregation
and apartheid, he won the Nobel Peace Prize and
was against white supremacy.

Nelson Mandella is a famous for fighting against segregation and apartheid.
Segregation is when something or someone is set apart from others.
Apartheid is when one race is against the other race concerning skin colour.
I think segregation and apartheid are bad because everyone
should get the same rights to life and should be treated equally.
An example of this is when 69
people that were peacefully protesting were shot down
by police in Sharpeville because the police were with segregation and
apartheid.

In 1993 Nelson Mandella won the Nobel Peace Prize. He won it for his work
of wanting a peaceful South Africa. Frederik Willem de Klerk won the Nobel
Peace Prize with Nelson Mandella for releasing him from prison since
1963 and for participating in the peace process.

During Nelson Mandella's time there was a lot of White Supremacy
in South Africa. When Nelson Mandella ran away to Johannesburg
he was shocked to find the White Africans living in idyllic homes and suburbs
and the Black Africans living in unsturdy, dirty hovels. Nelson Mandella often
said that he and the ANC were not anti-white, but were against white
supremacy. White supremacy is when ‘white’ skinned people get better
education, idyllic homes, food, jobs and a better chance at living a safe
and easy life. Nelson Mandella was against white supremacy.
He thought that everyone should be treated equally and fairly.

Nelson Mandella was and still is a very famous and important man in history.
He is famous for fighting against segregation and apartheid, he was
against white supremacy and he won the Nobel Peace Prize.
During Nelson Mandella’s life in South Africa there was a lot of segregation
and apartheid. Today in Afghanistan and other war torn countries,
there is a lot of segregation and apartheid. In some countries
boys are given better opportunities at getting schooling and
getting a job. I think everyone should have a chance to have a
safe and fair life.
